Music Ministry

“A verse may finde him, who a sermon flies, And turn delight into a sacrifice.”
— George Herbert

Musical worship is one of the most important things that happens in the church. The songs we sing together are not mere window dressing, but rather have a decisive role to play in shaping our beliefs and forming our souls. It is often the music that takes the teaching of the gospel beyond being merely information in our heads, and plants it as life-changing truth deep in our hearts. Therefore, we place a high value on musical worship when we gather each week.

The style of music at St John’s is not monolithic, but rather eclectic and flexible. It ranges from contemporary songs played on a guitar to traditional hymns accompanied by our world-class organ.

Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers work to find the right mix of songs that will best serve our diverse community at any given stage of its life, helping all of us to enter God’s presence with praise, confession, thanksgiving, and lament.

Choir

St John’s choir is a vital part of our music ministry, offering an opportunity for individuals of all ages and levels to engage with the rich Anglican tradition of choral worship. The choir rehearses on Sunday afternoons and sings for special services at St John’s, including Lessons & Carols, Ash Wednesday, Easter, Pentecost, and regular services of Choral Evensong.
